A letter is bespoke at its smallest scale. There is no consultation and no sketch, and yet the piece is built around one person. It carries an initial, a child’s name, a mother’s, a word that means something only to two people. Third, script: an Arabic letter and a Latin one carry the same name in two different voices, and the choice says which voice you mean.
